How To: Swing A Samurai SwordJaunted (The Pop Culture Travel Guide) USA 9/6/07 www.jaunted.com/story/2007/9/6/01633/53101/travel/How+To:+Swing+A+Samurai+SwordAll little boys dream of being a samurai warrior at some stage. Now big boys can get into some samurai sword action when they visit Japan, thanks to the crew at Experience Tokyo. Starting on September 16, you'll be able to join samurai expert Tetsuro Shimaguchi--he choreographed the sword fights in Kill Bill--and an English translator to learn how to be a successful sword fighter. After learning the basics, participants will be taught some choreographed steps as either winners or losers of a samurai encounter; while you practice, you'll be videotaped so you can reflect later on your performance. We love the sound of the final part of the day: Everybody gets changed into traditional Japanese costume for "a grand finale of sword fighting". If you survive the grand finale, you might like to check some of Experience Tokyo's other programs, which include kimono dyeing, a day in the life of a sumo wrestler, taiko drumming and making your own sushi--though they might seem something of a letdown after becoming a samurai.
